Terms of Use – Everyday Cooking Chronicle

Last updated: 18 March 2025

Hello. Eleanor here. I know legal pages aren’t exactly bedtime reading, but if you’re using Everyday Cooking Chronicle, there are a few ground rules worth understanding. I’ve tried to write these terms in plain English, because that’s how I’d want to read them myself. No surprises, no jargon, just clarity about how this site works and what we each expect from one another.

Accepting These Terms

By visiting or using Everyday Cooking Chronicle, you’re agreeing to these Terms of Use. If something here doesn’t sit right with you, the kindest thing for both of us is to step away from the site. I update these terms occasionally—usually when something genuinely changes about how the site operates, not because a calendar reminder told me to. When that happens, the “last updated” date at the top will reflect it. Continuing to use the site after changes means you’ve accepted the updated version.

What You’ll Find Here

Everyday Cooking Chronicle is my kitchen notebook made public. I share recipes I’ve tested at home, tips for navigating British supermarket aisles, thoughts on reducing food waste, and practical guidance for getting dinner on the table without losing your mind. I’m a home cook, not a professional chef, and the site reflects that. I write about what works in my own kitchen, with the ingredients available to me in the UK, and I try to be honest when a recipe went sideways so you can avoid my mistakes.

The recipes, photographs, and writing are mine unless I’ve credited otherwise. I put a lot of care into testing and documenting, but cooking is personal—your oven runs differently than mine, your taste buds have their own opinions, and your supermarket might stock slightly different products. Use your judgement. Trust your instincts.

Using the Content

You’re welcome to cook from my recipes, share links to articles, and print pages for your own kitchen use. What I ask is that you don’t republish my writing, photographs, or recipes elsewhere without permission. If you’d like to feature a recipe on your own site, a short description with a link back to the original page is the right approach. If you’re unsure, just ask. I’m reasonable.

You may not scrape the site, repackage content for commercial use, or present my work as your own. That’s not just a legal issue—it’s a respect one.

Comments and Community

If commenting is available on a post, I ask that you treat others with the same warmth you’d extend to a guest in your kitchen. I reserve the right to remove comments that are abusive, spammy, or otherwise undermine what this space is meant to be. This is a site for home cooks supporting one another, and that tone matters to me.

Links to Other Sites

Sometimes I link to products, books, or other resources I genuinely use and recommend. I’m not part of formal affiliate networks, but if that changes, I’ll make it clear. When I link to external sites, I can’t control what happens after you click away—those sites have their own privacy policies and terms.

Liability

I share recipes and kitchen advice in good faith, but I can’t be responsible for how things turn out in your kitchen. If a recipe doesn’t work, if someone has an allergic reaction, or if a technique causes damage to equipment, I’m not liable. Please read recipes through before starting, check ingredient labels for allergens, and follow standard food safety practices. If you’re feeding someone with serious dietary restrictions, consult appropriate medical or professional guidance.

Your Privacy

I take a straightforward approach to privacy. I don’t sell data, I don’t run invasive tracking, and if I ever collect emails for a newsletter, it’s because you’ve willingly signed up. My full Privacy Policy covers this in more detail. I’m not in the business of surveillance—I’m in the business of helping you figure out what to do with that half-head of cabbage and the sausages you found at the back of the fridge.

Intellectual Property

All content on Everyday Cooking Chronicle—writing, photography, illustrations, and site design—is my intellectual property unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit it without written permission. Small excerpts for non-commercial, personal use are fine with clear attribution.

Contact

If you have questions about these terms, or if you’d like to request permission for something not covered here, you can reach me through the contact form on the site. I read every message, even if I can’t always respond immediately. Real people write in, and real people reply.

Thank you for being here. Now let’s get back to cooking.
