Privacy Policy

We last updated this page on 18 March 2025.

Hello — I’m Eleanor Hart, the person behind Everyday Cooking Chronicle. This page explains how your information is handled when you visit this website or sign up to hear from me. I’ve tried to keep it as clear and straightforward as the recipes I share, because I believe you deserve to know exactly what happens with your data.

What information is collected and why

When you browse the site, a few standard pieces of technical information are automatically logged — things like your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visit. I use this in an aggregated, anonymous way (through a tool like Google Analytics) to understand which recipes you enjoy most and how people find the site. It helps me cook up more of what you actually want, without ever identifying you personally.

If you choose to leave a comment on a post, you’ll be asked for a name and email address. The name appears publicly alongside your comment; the email address stays private and is only used to spot spam or to contact you directly if there’s a problem with your comment. You’re never added to a mailing list just because you left a comment.

When you sign up for the Everyday Cooking Chronicle newsletter, I collect your email address and, if you choose to share it, your first name. This is stored securely with my email marketing provider and used only to send you the recipes, tips, and occasional kitchen stories you signed up for. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

Cookies and similar technologies

Like almost every website, this one uses small files called cookies. Some are essential for the site to work properly (for example, remembering that you’ve closed the cookie notice). Others help me understand how the site is used, or allow embedded content like recipe videos to function. I don’t use cookies to track you across the internet or to build a personal profile of you.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. If you choose to block all cookies, a few parts of the site might not work quite as smoothly — but the recipes will still be here for you.

Affiliate links and sponsored content

Occasionally, I link to kitchen kit, books, or ingredients I genuinely use and love. Some of these links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. When a post contains affiliate links, I’ll always say so clearly near the top. I never recommend anything I wouldn’t use in my own tiny London kitchen.

If I ever publish content that has been sponsored or paid for, I’ll mark it clearly. Your trust matters far more than any partnership.

Who your data is shared with

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. The only third parties that might process your data are trusted services I use to run the site — for example, my email platform, analytics provider, and web hosting company. Each of these is chosen with care and is compliant with UK and EU data protection law.

If I’m ever required to share information by law, I would only do so after making sure the request is valid.

How long information is kept

Newsletter subscriber details are kept until you unsubscribe. Comment information is kept indefinitely so follow-up conversations can happen naturally, but you can ask me to remove a comment and its associated data at any time. Anonymised analytics data may be retained for longer, purely to see long-term trends.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data I hold about you
  • Request that data be corrected or deleted
  • Withdraw consent for newsletter emails at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you feel your data hasn’t been handled properly

To exercise any of these rights, just drop me an email at the address below. I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can — usually within a few days, because I treat your privacy as seriously as I treat a burnt caramel.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes in how I handle your data, I’ll update this page and note the new date at the top. If the changes are significant, I’ll also send a brief note to newsletter subscribers so you’re never caught off guard.
