About Eleanor & Everyday Cooking Chronicle

I started Everyday Cooking Chronicle ten years ago with little more than a notebook and a belief that everyone deserves to eat well, even when time and money are tight. Back then it was simply my personal recipe journal—a place to record what worked and what didn’t, to remember the dishes that made a rainy Tuesday feel a little brighter. I never imagined it would grow into something shared with so many home cooks across the UK.

When I moved from Toronto to a compact London flat, everything I thought I knew about home cooking was put to the test. My new kitchen had a fraction of the space, the ingredients on the supermarket shelves were different, and the rhythm of the seasons felt new again. I found myself learning to cook all over again—this time through the lens of British produce, unpredictable weather, and a much stricter household budget. The recipes that followed were shaped by necessity, but they also rekindled my love for simple, resourceful cooking.

Today, Everyday Cooking Chronicle is built for the person staring into the fridge at five o’clock on a grey weekday, wondering how to turn whatever is in there into a proper meal. It’s not about glossy perfection or chef-level skills. It’s about making the most of supermarket staples, seasonal market finds, and the odd leftover, without wasting food or money. Here you’ll find practical weeknight recipes, energy-saving cooking methods, tips for organising a small kitchen, and honest guidance for feeding yourself and the people you live with—all rooted in the realities of UK households.

Alongside recipes, I write about the quiet routines that make daily cooking feel less like a chore and more like a small act of care. From learning how to store fresh produce so it lasts, to planning meals around what’s affordable and in season, to rediscovering classic British comforts with a lighter touch—this is where everyday kitchen wisdom lives. It’s the site I wish I’d had when I first unpacked my saucepan in London and realised I had no idea what a “swede” was.

At its heart, Everyday Cooking Chronicle is a reminder that good food doesn’t need to be complicated. It can be a bowl of soup made from yesterday’s vegetables, a tray of roasted odds and ends, or a crumble that uses up fruit before it turns. Whatever your kitchen looks like—spacious or shoebox-sized—you’re welcome here. I’m glad you’ve found your way to this corner of the internet, and I hope it helps you enjoy the daily ritual of cooking just a little bit more.
